Captain Christian von Oldershausen

Christian von Oldershausen looks back to an intensive and diversified involvement in the international maritime industry over a period of 35 years, including extended sales, marketing and business development oriented phases.

He gained his management and project development experience through such positions as a strategy advisor and asset manager for the shipping industry, as CEO of a shipping and marine services group active in the Tanker and Offshore Business, as Managing Director in charge for the shipping activities of a leading equity and finance syndicator for shipping investments, and as the head of the shipbuilding activities of a large German Industrial Group which included overseas postings.‎

He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering of the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal German Armed Forces, Hamburg and participated in a Post-Graduate program in International Business from the University of Houston.

Christian von Oldershausen started his professional career in the German Navy sailing on destroyers and frigates as a Marine Engineering Officer for nearly seven years. As Segment Director Naval Business he today is in charge of coordinating‎ DNV GL's activities towards navies, naval designers and shipyards.

Technical Assurance of offshore patrol vessels is critical for the overall safeguarding
of the ship’s vital assets, including the captain and the crew. Classification societies
develop, establish and subsequently audit rules and technical standards for
commercial and naval ships to achieve accepted safety requirements on board.
This session will address the latest technical assurance developments on board of
naval vessels as well as the most efficient methods of threat aversion to non-combat
vessels.
